This is the concluding part of the article we shared yesterday; I Am a Christian; Am I Still a Sinner? If you missed the first post, kindly Read it Here before reading this part. Be blessed as you read on.
Contd… This is the Good News. The wrath of God has been appeased and men can move away from the nature of sin and receive God’s nature of righteousness. From these verses, we realize that we have been let off the hook of sin, vindicated, we are free. And undeniably if Christ Jesus has set us free, we are free indeed [John 8:36].
By accepting Christ into our lives, our sins are washed away. The nature of God is restored in us, we are reconciled back to God [2 Corinthians 5:17-21]. We are now born of God, of the incorruptible word of God [1 Peter 1:23]. More amazingly, the nature of sin is taken away and the nature of righteousness is gifted to us. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous [Romans 5: 19]. We were made sinners by Adam but now we are made righteous by Jesus. You cannot be righteous and a sinner at the same time, you are either the latter or the former.
The popular question I receive from this point is; “but I still sin, so how can I be righteous since I’m still sinning?” This is why it is important to understand that what made you a sinner is not your deed but rather what Adam did and thus you are now Righteous also not because you have good deeds enough to receive righteousness but rather because of what Jesus did. The wrong deeds you still have in your life are there because the nature of sin registered the acts and desires of sin on your soul or your mind. But thankfully, you can now gradually overcome all unrighteousness as you have the new nature of righteousness and through renewing your mind with God’s word [Romans 12:2].
Paul continues to admonish us in Romans 6 that we now have the ability to overcome sin. This is because, the Christian carries the nature of righteousness and is not bound to sin anymore, thus he is not a sinner but rather righteous. Paul tells us not to give way for sin to dominate us again [Romans 5:12-14]. We now have the authority to resist sin and stand free from it. Isn’t this amazing and glorious?
If you are conscious of this then you can reign in the glorious life Christ brought to us. I want to categorically state again that “you are not a sinner as a Christian, you are Righteous; be conscious of that”. Righteousness is a nature you receive when Christ enters your life and this affords you the ability to stand before God without any sense of guilt or condemnation. Why? Because of what Jesus Christ did.
Righteousness is a key foundational principle for spiritual growth. The book of Hebrews states that anyone who is not skilled in the word of righteousness seeks milk and is a baby in Christ [Hebrews 5:13]. Evidently, understanding that you have a right standing with God and you do not carry the sinful nature again propels you towards a greater level of spiritual maturity.
Jesus died and resurrected to give you and me a glorious life. Do not demean what he endured and conquered for us. What Adam did is not beyond what Jesus did. Receive the gift of righteousness today and be free from any sense of condemnation, any long self-struggle with sin and get into the glorious liberty of living in the light.
Stay Blessed and acknowledge that God has demonstrated greater love towards us by sending His Son to be an offering for our sins [1 John 4:10].
